Visa free travel to the UK – not yet

A seemingly hoax article published recently caused quite a stir after it claimed that citizens of Commonwealth member countries can travel to the UK without a visa.

The said article stated that as Theresa May took over from David Cameron as the new British Prime Minister, citizens of Commonwealth member countries can from now on travel to the UK without a visa for stays of up to six months. Also business travellers would not need a visa.

However, upon querying the validity of the report, the UK Home Office has denied these reports to ASATA.

Rosie Libell said: “The UK is currently not looking into establishing a Commonwealth visa-free area. For reliable information on UK visa requirements, please visit: https://www.gov.uk/apply-uk-visa.”
