So many events, so many faces, so much news…Checkedin has decided to post, throughout the coming weeks some of the highlights we had the privilege of sharing with you throughout the year. For this week week we bring you our Checkedin Chico insert of Eugene Cronje…
Most of you have probably met Eugene Cronje, Account Manager at Virgin Atlantic, but do you know the ‘real’ reason why he got into travel? Read this week’s Checkedin Chico and find out….
Who are you and what made you get into travel?
Eugene Cronje, Account Manager at Virgin Atlantic. I got into travel because my mother said I was 21 and needed to stop messing around…lol. Started at Avis OR Tambo.
What has this industry taught you?
That the client is not always right. I do strive for customer satisfaction, whether it is the consultant or traveller, but we all know in this industry we cannot always create miracles due to customer error. I have also learned that the industry is very small and that like a family, one is connected with loads of areas within the trade, from MRU holidays, to booking villas in Croatia and assisting with flights or Visa questions. Great Network of people. We also hold the power to make travellers dreams come true and working for Virgin Atlantic, we do strive to really make your trip memorable.
Where do you think you’ll be in the next 5 years?
Still with the Virgin Group as I strongly believe in the brand and what it stands for. Having Sir Richard Branson as your front man, you cannot go wrong.
What is your most pleasant travelling experience?
Travelling Upper class on Virgin Atlantic of course. But in my personal capacity traveling to Sri Lanka last year was one of the most life changing experiences of my life. The people were absolutely amazing and the country’s diversity and beauty is something I will cherish for a long time.
Top 3 travel recommendations and why?
Sri Lanka – People are fantastic and welcoming, beautiful landscape and amazing history. We visited ancient cities that dated back 2nd century BC, wowzers.
Chicago – What an amazing city. Loads to see and do, easy to get around and has great bars and restaurants to really tickle your taste buds. San Francisco is a very close 2nd US city I loved.
Paternoster in the Western Cape – Beautiful little place with great beauty that this country has to offer. Going back in time to simpler times, escaping from the hustle and bustle.
Three travel tips?
Comfortable shoes – as South Africans are to use to just getting into their cars and driving everywhere, our feet take a knocking when walking the streets of London.
Travel with comfortable luggage, something that is easy to carry around from airports, to taxis and trains. If your back can handle it, a great back pack makes life very easy.
Have a daily budget, with our fantastic Rand, it is very easy to break the bank when traveling abroad, I tend to have my other half apply the brakes as it’s tough for me to stick to it…hahaha.
